Action Réfugiés Montréal offers information and uses our extensive legal knowledge to help refugees access justice. We also provide opportunities for resettlement in Canada and provide resources to facilitate integration into Canadian society

We have five full-time employees and one-part-time employee who provide support to people seeking refugee protection in Canada through our three programs.

Executive Director

In February 2013, Paul came to ARM after retiring from a career in banking. He seized the opportunity to work at Action Réfugiés Montréal, which has been a chance to fulfill a long-held dream to work towards social justice.

Detention & Twinning Program Coordinator

Jenny joined Action Réfugiés Montréal in 2005 as Detention Program Coordinator, and for over ten years has been visiting the Immigration Holding Centre on a weekly basis. Since 2008, Jenny has also coordinated the Twinning Program. Jenny currently co-chairs the Inland Protection Working Group of the Canadian Council for Refugees.

Sponsorship Program Coordinator

Cathy is a dedicated migration advocate who is excited to be helping refugees resettle in Canada. For two years, she monitored migration and refugee policy discussions at the United Nations in Geneva. Before that, she was based in Vietnam. Her academic background is in International Development, French, and Public Policy.

Emily is committed to helping refugees throughout their settlement process in Canada. She has recently completed a Master of Social Work and has experience working with newcomers in different parts of Canada.

Zehra Kavame

Administrative Coordinator

Zehra has been involved with ARM since May 2012. Beginning as a participant in the Twinning Program, she later became an employee in 2015. She has professional experience with refugees and immigrants here in Québec. For two years, she worked for government-assisted refugees and developed an info-guide.

Detention Program Assistant

Camila Sanchez Lancheros was an intern in our Detention program in the autumn of 2016 and received her diploma in Criminology in December 2016. She acts as the Detention Program Assistant since February 2017.

ARM relies on a team of dedicated volunteers who share a commitment to ensuring that refugee rights are respected in Canada. Currently, we have roughly 50 active volunteers. Find out more information about our volunteer opportunities.

Interns

Current interns: Emilia, Mahnaz, Theo and Hanna

We have arrangements with various universities to provide internships for students. We usually have students from McGiIl University and Université de Montreal from the faculty of Law, and the schools of Criminology and School of Social Work, who get an opportunity to receive training and gain experience working with a vulnerable population. Board of Directors

Our board of directors is composed of 12 people from a variety of backgrounds. Board members serve two-year terms. Our Board is currently chaired by Patil Tutunjian. JOURNÉE MONDIALE DES RÉFUGIÉS 2017 - Ensemble nous bâtissons le Québec

Cette année, Action Réfugiés Montréal (ARM), ALPA (Accueil et Liaison pour Arrivants), Carrefour d’Aide aux Nouveaux Arrivants (CANA), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), RIVO et SINGA Québec organisent une marche symbolique sur la rue Sainte-Catherine le samedi 17 juin à l'occasion de la Journée mondiale des réfugiés (JMR). Lors de cette marche, nous célébrerons le courage et la résilience de celles et ceux qui ont dû fuir leur pays.

Le point de départ de la marche se trouve aux Résidences du YMCA au 4039 rue Tupper, station de métro Atwater.

Notez que les marcheurs sont attendus à midi et que le départ officiel se fera à 13h. La marche se terminera devant l'église St-Jax Montréal, au 1439 rue Ste-Catherine Ouest, où sont situés les bureaux d'Action Réfugiés Montréal. Sur place, plusieurs organismes dévoués à la cause des réfugiés animeront des kiosques d'information et des activités interactives. Des réfugiés prendront aussi la parole à cette occasion.

Cette année nous prévoyons une fête, de la musique, des couleurs, des animations artistiques et plusieurs autres surprises! Venez célébrer avec nous!

WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2017

This year, Action Réfugiés Montreal (ARM), ALPA (Accueil et Liaison pour Arrivants), Carrefour d’aide aux nouveaux arrivants, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), RIVO and Singa Québec are organizing a symbolic walk on Saint Catherine Street in Montreal Saturday June 17th to celebrate World Refugee Day. During this walk, we will highlight the courage and resilience of those who had to flee their country.

This walk will start at the YMCA Residence on 4039 Tupper Street, near the Atwater metro station. Note that the participants are invited to assemble at 11h30 and the walk will officially start at 1pm. The walk will end in front of the church St-Jax Montreal, 1439 St-Catherine West, where the Action Réfugiés Montreal office is located.

Many organisations devoted to the refugee cause will hold information kiosks and interactive activities. We will also hear from some refugees during the event.

This year we are looking forward to a bigger party, music, dance, lots of colours, and many other surprises! Come celebrate with us!
