Action Réfugiés Montréal participates in and helps organize a variety of annual events to support the refugee community and raise awareness of refugee rights.
We are also pleased to be able to speak about our work at Action Réfugiés Montréal and refugee issues in the press.
World Refugee Day – Saturday June 17th, 2017
We celebrated World Refugee Day by organizing a solidarity march from the YMCA Residence to our offices on June 17. Partnering with many other not-for-profit organizations and individual citizens, we were ecstatic that over 200 persons participated. Over 40 volunteers helped out. We had financial support from the federal, provincial and municipal governments. Here are some photos of the day:
Annual General Meeting
We are very pleased to host the numerous clients, friends and donors who attended our Annual General Meeting on May 11. Sule Tomkinson delivered an interesting perspective on the refugee determination system in Canada.

Refugee Rights Day
April 4th has marked Refugee Rights Day in Canada since 1985, when the Supreme Court of Canada decided that everyone in Canada, including refugee claimants, is entitled to justice, life, liberty and security. The Canadian Council for Refugees notes that April 4th is a reminder of the progress that has been made in the protection of refugee rights in Canada as a result of the Singh decision. This day also serves as an opportunity to bring awareness to other current refugee issues.
Thank you to the more than 180 people who came to celebrate refugee rights this year! Special thanks to our team of volunteers, including many of our twins, a group of volunteers from TD Bank, some refugee claimants recently released from the detention centre, and others!
World Refugee Day
World Refugee Day has been celebrated on June 20th since 2001, coinciding with African Refugee Day, which had previously been celebrated in various countries prior to 2001. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) describes World Refugee Day as a day to celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of millions of refugees around the world.
Action Réfugiés Montréal works closely with the UNHCR and other dedicated local organizations to bring attention to World Refugee Day and celebrate refugees in the Montreal region.
Ride for Refuge
