ARM is a strong voice for the refugee experience in Quebec and beyond
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has recognized ARM’s expertise in refugee protection and our understanding of Canada’s overseas selection and inland determination processes.
In Canada, we are active members of the Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR) and the Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes (TCRI). Jenny Jeanes is currently Co-chair of the Inland Protection working group of the CCR.
ARM staff members often meet with, or write to, politicians and other influential parties. ARM also regularly raises concerns directly with government ministries or agencies, including Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) , the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
ARM has participated in several research projects and publications, including the research by Dr. Janet Cleveland on the impact of detention on the mental health of refugee claimants.
In 2015 ARM published a report entitled Detained in the New Refugee System featuring interviews with ex-detainees about their experience in the Canadian refugee determination system as well as their experience in detention.
We appear regularly in media to discuss refugee issues. We keep the most recent reports on our In the press page.
We organize public events celebrating Refugee Rights Day in Canada and World Refugee Day in order to advocate for refugee rights. For information about our activities check our Events page regularly.
