It is a huge honour for our organization to meet and work together with the world’s decision-makers in refugee resettlement. In recognizing our role and place in Canada’s resettlement programs, we happily share our knowledge and 20+ years of experience in bringing people forced to flee their home countries to Canada. As the sole organization invited which specializes in sponsorship in Québec, we are proud to present our work on the global stage. Québec has welcomed a significant number of refugees over the past few years and the Québec model is considered a good example for other countries to follow. To our best knowledge, Action Réfugiés Montréal is the only Sponsorship Umbrella Agreement Holder (Détenteur entente-cadre) in Québec that has participated in this international conference . It is with much appreciation of the people we work with and due to the efforts of our excellent staff, volunteers, and supporters that we are able to offer world-class services and be consulted now internationally.
Our Sponsorship Coordinator, Cathy Nguyen, attended the multi-day conference and was particularly active in the workshops on Complementary Pathways to Refugee Resettlement (including labour and family reunification programs); discussions between Emerging and Traditional Resettlement States and NGOs; and Community Refugee Sponsorship Programs, which highlighted key elements of the Canadian model. The Conference Agenda can be found here.
Action Réfugiés Montréal’s mission is to seek and promote compassion and justice to refugees. We normally do this in the Montreal area. Now extending our mission internationally, our contributions to this refugee resettlement consultation are helping more government decision-makers and community organizations establish best practices and are leading to more refugees being resettled to a safe place to live.
In addition to our discussions aiding other countries establish refugee sponsorship programs, another result of the global collaboration for this multi-day meeting includes a statement signed by participating Non-Governmental Organizations, which was submitted to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as part of the conference’s official documentation.
Action Réfugiés Montréal: extending the scope of Compassion and Justice for Refugees as far as we can.
